About Katie Johnson & Eric Lesser

From 20 January 2009 until June 2011 Katie Johnson served as the Personal Secretary to the President of the United States. In this role Johnson managed the daily operations of the oval office, managed access to President Obama, oversaw paper flow to the President, and executed the President’s daily schedule. Immediately prior to joining the White House staff Johnson managed the Presidential transition office in Chicago. From January 2007 through December 2008 Johnson served as the special assistant to Obama for America campaign manager David Plouffe. On the campaign Johnson played a strategic role, managing communications with over 4000 staff members throughout the country. Prior to joining the Obama campaign, Johnson worked as the special assistant for then-Congressman Rahm Emanuel at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Johnson served as a critical staffer to Emanuel during the successful 2006 Democratic takeover of the House of Representatives, helping to coordinate and communicate with over 50 house races across the country. During the 2004 campaign cycle Johnson served as a field director on Congressional races in Kentucky, South Dakota, Louisiana and North Carolina. Katie Johnson graduated cum laude from Wellesley College in 2003 with a degree in political science and spent a year studying at the London School of Economics. Johnson is currently in her first year at Harvard Law School.


Eric Lesser is currently a first year student at Harvard Law School, and a Resident Tutor at Harvard College. From 2009-2011 Eric worked in the White House, for two years as Special Assistant to White House Senior Adviser David Axelrod, and later as the Director of Strategic Planning for the White House Council of Economic Advisers, where he helped develop and implement the Obama Administration's communications around economic policy. Prior to entering the White House, Lesser served as David Axelrod’s Special Assistant during the Obama-Biden Presidential Transition. From January 2008 through November 2008 Lesser worked as the Obama Campaign’s Ground Logistics Coordinator, where he was responsible for all equipment and other logistical support for then-Senator Obama, his traveling staff and traveling press corps, visiting forty-seven states, six countries, and traveling over 200,000 miles. From June 2007 through January 2008 Lesser was a member of Sen. Barack Obama’s Campaign Advance Team, where he was responsible for organizing Sen. Obama’s campaign events during the 2008 New Hampshire Primary. He graduated from Harvard College in 2007, where he served as President of the Harvard College Democrats and founded a public policy research center at the Kennedy School of Government’s Institute of Politics.
